What is Flyball?

Flyball is a dog sport in which teams of dogs race against each other from a start/finish line, over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad, then back to their handlers while carrying the ball.

- Our Flyball Program -

Flyball Classes are setup in a "drop-in" fashion to adjust for both student and teacher flexibility.

The classes are offered on most Friday nights from 7pm to 9pm (check the GRKC Calendar for class nights). The classes work based on the fundamentals of Flyball, backward chaining of the sport with all positive training exercises. These exercises focus mainly on

  • Drive
  • Recall
  • Jumping techniques
  • Swimmer's turn on the Flyball Box
  • Interaction and passing of other dogs
  • Flyball racing and interaction with other dog handlers
  • Learning the sport of Flyball racing

Drop in class participants will be trained individually based on their experience and class attendance. This means you can train at the speed you desire and your dogs ability, not based on the overall class level.

The cost for the Drop In class is $10.00 for Non-members and $5.00 for GRKC Members with Extended Benefits.

A good recall is recommended and off-lead control is very important.

Flyball Fun days

Flyball Fun Days (or "Mock tournaments") are attended by several other area flyball teams.  It is designed to help new flyball dogs in training to learn and train at a different facility in tournament conditions.

The pictures below are from the last Flyball Fun Day, which was on 2/22/15.
